Write down the current balance, minimum repayment, interest rate, missed payments, late fees, and when the repayment problem started. If income changed, note the date and the reason in plain words.

Contacting the card provider in writing gives you a record. You can explain what changed, what you can afford right now, and ask the provider to assess hardship options.
