AFCA complaints: what happens after you lodge

A draft plain-language guide to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority process and what to prepare before escalating.

Before AFCA

AFCA usually expects you to complain to the financial firm first. Keep the complaint number, dates, names of people you spoke with, and copies of emails or letters. If the firm does not respond or the response does not resolve the issue, AFCA may be the next pathway.

What AFCA needs

  • Your contact details and the financial firm name
  • A short timeline of what happened
  • The outcome you want
  • Documents that support the complaint
  • Any response from the firm

How Fairgo connects

Fairgo can turn a messy story into a timeline, draft an internal dispute resolution letter, and keep the source records together so escalation is less stressful.
